Drywall Tape Calculator

Measure flat joints and inside corners for a clear roll estimate, or use drywall area with an editable planning rate.

Enter measurements below. Results update as you type, and optional prices can be added before sharing the estimate.

The calculation

Tape rolls = total joint length ÷ roll length

Rolls = ceiling((flat seams + inside corners + taped ceiling perimeter) × (1 + waste) ÷ roll length)

  • Measured joints are more reliable than a generic area rate.
  • Outside corners may use corner bead rather than ordinary joint tape.
  • Roll length should come from the exact tape package.
  • The final result rounds up to full retail rolls.

Common questions

Understand the result before purchasing

01How much drywall tape do I need?+

Add the lengths of flat joints, inside corners, and any wall-to-ceiling joints that will be taped. Add a small allowance for cuts and damage, then divide by the tape length per roll.

02Should outside corners be included as drywall tape?+

Usually not when outside corners receive metal, vinyl, paper-faced, or composite corner bead. Follow the selected corner system and manufacturer instructions.

03Can I estimate tape from drywall square footage?+

Yes. Area mode uses an editable tape-per-100-square-feet rate. Measuring actual joint lengths is more reliable because sheet layout changes seam quantity.

04Does the calculator round to full rolls?+

Yes. The waste-adjusted tape length is divided by the selected roll length and rounded up to a whole retail roll.

05Can I include tape cost?+

Yes. Enter a local price per roll to estimate the rounded purchase cost.

06Can I share the drywall tape estimate?+

Yes. Copy estimate link saves the seam, area, waste, roll, and price assumptions in the URL.
